Mail Not Working!

Lately everytime I try to check my gmail with the iPhone Mail app it gives me an error that says something like "cannot connect to imap.gmail".

It used to work, but now it never does. It's very frustrating not being able to check my e-mail.

What is the problem? How do I fix this?

try deleting your gmail account from Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendar>Your email account>Red button at the buttom that says delete account. after that try to create a new account. see if that works. since gmail uses imap, all your mail will still be the same even if you delete your account locally from your iphone.

I thought about doing that but I wasn't sure if it would permanently delete my gmail account
