Semi-bricked?

A few months ago, I got an iphone and I went looking for ways to unlock it and jailbreak it so I could use it as a tmobile phone. I found a site that told me that I needed to put it into safe made in order for me to get into the menu because all I could do is dial 911. The site said I had to download their program and install it in order to get it into safe mode. Like the idiot that I am...I did. Now when I plug it in, the PC won't recognize it and asks me to install drivers. The phone resets randomly and when it is on, it only shows the usb/itunes screen. It won't do anything when buttons are pressed. I ordered one of those super-sims chips but it still doesn't do anything.

How do I revert my my back to the way it was?

Put it into DFU mode.Restore to itunes.Use quickpwn or pwnage tool to jailbrake it.(mac or windows?)

how do i put it into dfu mode?
i tunes doesn't recognize it.

Edit: THIS was the site I used. I used the alternative method and the phone doesn't respond.
I've tried and tried to put it into dfu mode

1. Power phone OFF
2. Hold power + home for 10 secs
3. Continue to hold home and let go of power
4. Wait 15 seconds until iTunes sees the phone.

I got quickpwn to work and jailbreak my phone but it still won't use my tmobile sim.
What else am I missing?

What did you take as an error?
Then be sure your sim in while you are jealbreaking...

i just says no service.

i accedently upgraded to iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw

is there a way to downgrade because i cant get get quicpwn to work any more.
it says "Firmware error string"

Ahh.. :/ You updated to 2.2.1. Unfortunately there's no jailbreak right now for that, and I'm assuming it updated your baseband so you won't be able to unlock the phone... for now. But overall I'm assuming that the new update was made to specifically stop people unlocking it. Sorry dude...
