broken/dead strip on the bottom of iphone

even before i jailbreaked my iphone, none of the buttons on the bottom of the screen worked except for the sliding buttons. even in the camera mode, i can't take pictures, even in texting i can't use the space bar, even when you go into the settings menu and try to click something, it won't work unless you move the list up and then click the option. is there anything i can do to fix this?

You have a bad digitizer. Its a hardware issue.

and what options do i have to fix this besides buying a whole new screen?

Apple may replace it, if its still under warranty.

Otherwise....on a 2g, you have to buy the entire screen assembly.

On a 3g, you can buy only the glass/digitizer.

i've been reading about replacing the general.plist....might anyone have any guides for this?

I can guarantee its the digitizer.

If it was any type of software issue....a restore would fix it.
