what i suggest is either finding a place that fixs phones or open up ur phone and leave it under a lamp
you need a really small philips that you can buy at like frys or an electronics place
and youtube a disassembling
do what you want but in the end the only responsible person is you
you dont want to take it to att or apple because they wont do anything
but if you do good luck and DONT TELL THEM IT IS WATER DAMAGE
just say something like i woke up and it was like this
and if its jail broke the restore it
good luckiPhone Devices;3

i didn't buy the phone from apple or at&t so they won't help me out at all. the red light is weird its right next to the earpiece and it lights up. its not on the lcd screen or nothing. its right next to the earpiece it looks kind of like a power sign. i'm gonna try to dry this thing out a little more hopefully the lcd will dry up

That actually isn't a light. It's an IR sensor, someone on an apple board thinks that there may be a droplet of water still in there that's somehow changing the normally invisible IR beam into visible light. You're not the only one who's had this issue occur, but from what I've read, in every case that this light is visible, it's because they dropped the phone in the toilet (and in one case, the pool).

why is the lcd screen so dim? does the iphone have a backlight? what parts would i need to replace so the screen is not so dim. I already opened the phone up and blew a hair dryer in it.
so i finally fixed my iphone i had it sitting under a heat lamp, but i had fingerprints on the lcd so i went to go wipe them off, and i cracked the ******* LCD!!!!!!!!!! now its gonna cost me 100 bux to fix itLast edited by retro31337; 01-25-2009 at 04:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Do headphones work? If they don't, ribbon cable #3 is probably not pushed all the way in. Lift the tab up on the motherboard and VERY gently wiggle it in all the way. Don't force it though because it can snap. I have a question about fixing the lcd. How did you connect the replacement lcd to the metal frame? I am told that it doesn't come with adhesive. Can you use the existing adhesive or did you use something else like double-sided tape? I need to replace my lcd which is damaged in one small area, but I don't want to take out the old one until I am sure I know how to replace it. Thanks

mine came with an adhesive i think. There was a thin piece of plastic i pulled off of the new lcd and i stuck it to the piece of metal. The headphones do work. i bought a new third ribbon cable, to try to replace it. the third ribbon cable has nothing to do with the headphones i don't think because it is only connected to the part holding the lcd.

Yeah, cable #3 is for the ear piece, but I had heard someone else to say that headphones don't work if it is not attached properly, but yeah that doesn't make sense. Hopefully you don't have to replace the whole touch panel. That is a real pain.

do i have to solder the earpiece to the cable?

I have never done it, but I am sure you have to solder it. I am also sure it is pretty difficult since cable #3 is under cable #2. If it doesn't work, you could always order the touch panel since they are not that expensive. The hard part about replacing the touch panel is that you have to separate the frame and home button from the glass (they are glued together) then glue the new touch panel to the old frame. A lot can go wrong like the frame bending when trying to pry it off or the home button getting stuck down when you glue it together. But the touch panel does come with the ear piece and cable attached.
