How to restore AT&T carrier name?
I jailbroke my 1st gen iphone back when I was on system software 1.1.1. One of the apps I installed at that time was Make It Mine - changing the AT&T carrier indicator to Skynet. Later, I restored and upgraded to v.2.0 and I haven't re-jailbroken it since.
The carrier, however, still says Skynet. And the problem is that I now need to take the phone in to have it looked at because the normal phone mode isn't working. It's long out of warranty anyway, though, so do I need to worry that the Genius Bar people will see that the phone was obviously jailbroken at some point?
How can I change the carrier back to AT&T?"If morons could fly it'd be pitch black." - anonymous

I'd say either do a clean restore, which should set it back, or jailbreak again, revert the carrier to AT&T, then restore...

I did a little more Googling after I posted this and it turns out there's an app called CaptionCrunch and at some point the developer created a special request version that's specifically for changing/reverting the carrier string. It was released before iphone system 2 but it still works. It does hang for a while with a "please wait" message but it eventually gets past that and allows you to revert to the official carrier string or set a different one if you like.
If anyone's interested, it can be downloaded from macdaddyworld.com.
Oh....and no jailbreaking required for this. It's a Mac app and it syncs with your docked iphone.

That's funny, before I got my replacement I forgot to restore that app. I changed the banner and the carrier.I had to re-jailbreak the phone. Right after I restored it. Delete the text in the text box in make it mine then hit the carrier button.

Restore your phone and set it up as new. Then manually sync all of your information back over. Do not restore from a backup.
Or you can just go into Cydia and search Makeitmine and it will show up.

You are not an idiot. I just spent an hour looking for a version of an app that was supposed to be in Cydia, but it was a mislabeled package. After installation it showed the correct package version.
