Switching from iPhone 2g to 3G?!

Okay, so this is my first post ever since being a member since '07. When the 3G came out I decided to stick with my 2g. I've had it since the first month of release back in 2007. I just wanted to get some advice from some people that have made the switch to 3G from a 2g already. I recently dropped my 2g on a tile floor and now the sleep/wake button is mostly unresponsive. I have to push the button really hard to lock it, which drives me crazy. I was just curious how seamless the process is in upgrading to a 3G in terms of transferring all the data contained on my 2g to the new 3G phone? Is it worth it? Thanks for anyone who takes the time to read this and for those who have any advice on upgrading!

^It's really easy. You just back up your 2G in iTunes, then when you get your 3G restore from that backup, I believe.
