Changing passcode help needed
I'm wondering if there is a way to change my passcode on my iphone. I don't know what the old passcode is since I'm not the original owner of this. It was purchased used, and the person who had it prior to me is no help at all. It is not locked up, it is only annoying that I can't change the passcode since I don't know the what the original one was set at. Is there maybe a default passcode? Outside of restoring, which I don't know if that will reset the old passcode or not, are there any other options? I really don't want to go through the hassle of restoring since I have spent a great deal of time setting up everything the way I want. And if I need to do a restore, what is the best method of backing up all my apps in your opinion. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In iTunes right click on your phone and click backup. Then enter DFU mode and restore phone. Rejailbreak and unlock (if needed). Right click on your phone and click restore from backup. Done.

I know how to restore and go into DFU mode, however I was hoping to avoid that. Any other solutions? Default passcode, anything! Thanks for the support.

You must restore via DFU mode.

A little funny, sorry. I've never used anything but Pwnage on both my old 2G and now 3G. Pretty sure DFU mode is required. Oh well, the past is history..

Why wouldn't the passcode be reset when I initially installed and ran Pwnage after I first received the phone? I'm assuming this doesn't restore when you run this?

@Spyrig. You're right. After a Pwnage or iTunes restore the phone is virgin .. no passcode. It's later after the restore from backup where the the issue arrises. Some (like myself) see it set, others have seen differently.

The passcode is kept in a config file which is stored at mnt/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist.
So if you don't want restore your phone, just search this trick on google.

It's not that I don't want to restore, however it appears this may not be the solution after all. Am I correct that by running Pwnage the passcode should be reset

I wanted to give an update here. It is supreme preferences which is the cause of the mysterious changing passcode. Passcode is set, and working under the default settings application, however when I use SP it doesn't recognize the passcode, nor will it allow me to change it. I sent an email to the dev, hoping to hear back. I have tried doing an reinstall, as well as an entire system reset from scratch. I understand this has not been tested for 2.1 which I'm using, so perhaps it is a bug of some sort. Anyone else have this issue using 2.1?

Strange and unusual things happen when multiple apps compete for thier own piece of the Preference space. Many do not play nicely with others or even the defaults. We may not like Apples strangle-hold on released apps, but their oversight eliminates these issues. Gotta take the bad along with the good.
