App question

I AM RUNNING WINDOWS 7 NOT MAC OSX

Okay so ive SSHed into an application, not in the .app folder there is a file that has no extension, and generally it is labled exactly the same as the app folder. I'm assuming that it is the main code file for the application. So now what i want to know is if there is any converters or programs to open it and edit it, if so please post them (you will be thanked) .
