Default iphone will not work... at all

alright. i just finished reading through 35 different help posts related to this, and have yet to find a matching problem.
I purchased this iphone from my friend, who just got a new one and sold me his old. he had used winpwn to jailbreak/unlock...ect.
He did the reset on it so it would erase all his stuff. (he told me he reset it, when he gave it to me all i seen was the apple symbol with a little progress bar.)
once that was done, the phone just likes to restart itself every 5 minuets. the only thing it shows is the winpwn pineapple logo, not the apple logo. it shows the logo, sits there for a while and restarts itself. iv'e tried putting it in DFU mode and nothing works. it is not recognized by itunes, and i can only turn it off by holding the power and home buttons. I've also tried a different sim card but this had no effec (i didnt really expect it to)
im not to experienced with this. i had one iphone before but managed to break it shortly after.

Is there some type of physical reset that might work rather than holding the home and power buttons?

EXACTLY the same thing just happened to me!
I forced DFU mode (search for it).
and re-installed with a pwned ipsw (made with pwnage)
It's now unlocked and in my niece-in-law's hands.

the key is to force DFU and re-install. it seems erasing via the settings program doesn't work for us.

i kinda figured it out by myself...
i didnt know if you held home while it was off, then plugged it into the computer, and kept holding home, it would enter recovery mode.
