Double Folders
I keep getting a message saying "Low on system memory" and have to restart my phone. I was checking my phone and under /private/var/stash I have duplicate folders. They all contain the same content but the folder name is different. Here is what I mean. In the main "stash" folder I have applications.js!IYI and applications.nn5WxP and when i open them up the contents are the same. Is this normal and could this be causing a Low on system memory?

I only have one applications folder in my stash folder. Have you installed sbsettings to check your free memory?

stash are your appstore applications. what other things are you running on your phone? sbsettings? winterboard? what theme are you using? any widgets? we need to find out what it is that is draining your memory. for me right now my weather and date widget is draining my memory so i can have it on if im doing anything important....what do you have?
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

i had the same problem
what i did was basically
look in the folders that are duplicated
and found out which one was actually the one my phone uses
by the names of the folders within the duplicated folder
and i just deleted the folder that was not being used
i think during an update or something
apple renamed the folders and they just never got deletd
just delete the folders u dont need
i did that and had no problems.

Dethseeker90 I have deleted the double folders but am still running low memory.
I just did a fresh re-jailbreak without syncing with iTunes and when I opened Cydia and went to System I only have 12% free with 88% used. What the hell is going on. I don't have anything installed.

since you've done restoring, etc, trying resetting all settings in your settings application. see if that helps.

I just did that and it did not make a difference. I just installed my first app from installer after the re-jailbreak openssh and my system free went down to 10%. Why is Cydia installing apps on my system instead of private?
Also on a fresh image is it normal to have 88% taken already on the system?Last edited by 94loranger; 01-11-2009 at 04:17 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

are u the phones first owner?
cause awhile back one of the jailbreaking/unlocking softwares had
a feature in which you could change the partition size
if this was the case u might have had someone change the partition size to a lower capacity
i had changed mine to 1gig
so i have 3gs of free space and 1g of memory to store apps and such.
also
what is the location cydia is installing apps?

Yes I am the first owner of the phone. I jailbreak my phone with quickpwn because winpwn does not work with windows computers. If I am wrong and I can change the storage size another way please let me know how to do this.
Also, how do i check where the location cydia is installing apps?

install an app via cydia
and ssh into the aplications folder..
if its not there
then cydia is doing some funky shizz and
installing it somewhere else...
i totally forgot how to change the partition size but its very well possible if someone knows
please state which program it was

My phone also has duplicates of each folder in the stash with the same contents it looks like. Should I delete the dup's? If so, how do I know which to delete and which to keep.

i think the problem is coming from being jailbroken then upgrading to a new firmware and then re-jailbreaking.
same thing happened to me going from 2.2 to 2.2.1
is there a fix?
is there a different way we should have upgraded to 2.2.1
