Exclamation GPS, 3G, and EDGE confusion?????

hi evry1, i noticed since i got my iphone that when i turn on EDGE and 3G, they don't work. so i went to the Apple retail Store in my country(Kuwait) and asked the technician about Cellular Data Network since i thought that if i input the settings for it EDGE would work. so the technician input pps for APN, username, and password. and so far when i turn EDGE on i can view the Google Maps without Dsl or and internet connection. Then 15 min later i checked how much credit do i have on my phone that i had only 0.035 fils( my currecny) and i had 0.800 fils before he input the settings. y is that? i thought EDGE works without taking anything from credit (correct me if i am wrong). if cellular data network is not EDGE then how do i get EDGE to work?

p.s: i don't have EDGE in settings, i open it via bossprefs.

in addition, 3G doesn't Work on my iphone 3G!!! and i am in a 3g country and my carrier has 3G enabled so why when i turn on 3G the 3G icon doesn't show up in the bar above and i can't access the internet or google maps.

i also noticed that when i was on google maps the E on top sometimes turned into a white dot??!!! what is that?

last porblem is that the iphone 3G is supposed to have GPS so why can't i access google maps without the need of an internet connection, edge or 3g.

    thx in advance

edge is using the phone companys cellular connection to access the web or anything Internet based I believe and for your gps u need to make sure that gps is available in your area
As for the 3g it is a service provided to u through the carrier it is something u have to pay for

As my knowledge 3G works in only Eigypt via vodefone not kuwait.
You dont need 3G for google maps, cause it also works via edge&wifi.
E symbol turns into white-its means there is no edge covarege in the area.

    yes edge takes credit..
its linked to the cellular network.
for your 3g service try talking to your service provider they can provide more information on that
also for your gps? i cant help u with that.

GPS doesn't use any cellular network. You can remove the sim and it will work!! However a dedicated GPS app IS needed. I've had little to no success w/Google maps and 3G

    Sorry, Can't help w/3G
