Help!! Ribbon #3 problem while re-assembling
Ok. I just received my new Blue Back cover today. I took apart the phone and did the swap, ended up with like 2 extra screws but i'll worry about that later. The problem is that for the life of me I cannot get ribbon number 3 to slide into that damn thing so I can lock it. I've been trying for 2 hours. I tried tweezers, prayer, etc. WTF man.
Anyway back cover is looking sweeeeeeeeeeet!!
If I crimp the ribbon on accident is that a bad thing?
Also, to my understanding Ribbon #3 has to go all the way in until the white line right? mine only goes in halfway.Last edited by gQstatus05; 01-08-2009 at 01:00 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

From what I remember reading, I think that is the one where the black part lifts up and then the ribbon slides in and you snap it back down. Maybe you didnt lift it up when removing it and broke it? I read in one of the threads of someone doing that not realizing it until trying to put it back in.
Besides this, how did the swap go for you? harder or easier than you though? If I helped you dont be afraid to click thanks

First off, replacing the cover is a b**ch. It comes without any of the rails in place, so you pretty much have to remove the ones from your old cover. The are glued down with a blue cement, formulated and patented in HELL.
Next, and this is relevant to the OP, ribbon three is equally a b***h, in fact its a m**ther F***ing b***h. Why? Because if you don't fit it properly, it will short out, and fry itself, as demonstrated by my attached photos. All in all, it is a NIGHTMARE. Because of the burned ribbon, my iPhone is out of service. Wonder where I can get a replacement? I take it that this ribbon is critical because, it links the charger, dock etc to the logic board.

Yeah I'm aware that it slides in and I did losin the lock holding it. It just slides in half way. I'm assuming you have to slide it in until you reach the white line, meaning it's all the way in. My phone is inoperable now, looks sweet but inoperable. I'm taking it to a computer guru who makes laptops and pcs to see if he can slide the damn ribbon in.
The problem is that the ribbon will only go halfway in. I don't know how to get it all the way in. It's already unlocked "The door holding the ribbon". It's frustrating because this is my only phone and I have to find my other phone. My warranty is void b/c I destroyed the OEM white back while taking out the chrome bezel that was glued on. I'm not worried about it though b/c I'll probably get a new one when this one goes down under, a(waiting MacWorld news on a new iPhone.)Last edited by gQstatus05; 01-08-2009 at 08:55 AM. OMG I just got owned by my iPhone. The kid I gave it made a boo boo. He attached ribbon #3 and put the LCD back on. Instead of prying just the LCD he tried pry the chrome bezel along with the screen. Vibrater motor is broken, I'm sending out to get fix by a member of this forum.

I trust you have the communications board and battery out and set off to the side. The easiest thing to do is connect your ribbon cable first. It can bend but not crimp. That way you know it is in far enough. Next move over to the opposite side and use a small "Spunger", I guess the call it to connect the cable nearest the centerline, next the one immediately next to it. The last logical step is to move back to the ribbon cable side and connect that last connector. The last one is in my opinion the easiest to reconnect.

Yeah. I had it all assembled but the ribbon was being a pain in my rectum. I gave it to his dude at my job who is good with building laptops. Needless to say Applelonia owned both our arses. He was under the impression that to remove the LCD you'd have to take it out with the BEZEL. He broke the vibrator (lol sounds funny) and bent this little bracket which doesn't look serious. I sent my iPhone out and I trust it will be in good hands.
I'm using a Nokia phone right now, good battery but this is like torture. I can't go from a McClaren to a KIA! I miss her already.
PS be sure to post up pics when she's done so we can showcase her beauty.Android user suffering from iPhone withdraw.

kjack I seriously recommend you take pictures or film the whole process. Label all the screws or make a color code. Take some nail polish (different colors) and as you are removing screws write where they came from, mark with a specific color and color the screw thread a little. I made a mistake by not doing that. I assembled it yesterday and had like 6 screws left over. I had to take it apart again and did a little better because then I only had 2 screws left over.
Go to youtube and look at videos, read read read.
When I received it yesterday just looking at the sheer beauty of it made me rip apart my phone. If you love her you'll do it right.Android user suffering from iPhone withdraw.

^Hahaha, I dont use nail polish or tutorials.
In fact, I throw all the screws in a little black plastic bowl. Theres only a couple that are different sizes than the rest, as long as you know where those go...your good.
And, LOL...I've never had any left over

That is a good suggestion GQ, I will keep that in mind and take my time and try not to get in a hurry. Now i just need to decide what color I want and if I want to upgrade the battery while im in there.

I reassembled mine and didnt feel I had problem reattaching ribbon 3... but I dont think it went in all the way to the white line.. think it went in about an 1/8 of an inch. Now Im freaking out because I dont want to have to take it apart again(I applied a special adhesive for the screen and fear taking it apart will tear the adhesive), and I dont want to remove it . Its been working fine though.. but your planted a seed of doubt.
