i have an iphone 2g with fw 2.2 unlocked with tmobile the service on it comes and goes like for example i would have the full service bars with the edge and then it will jus start hopping from 1 bar to 3 bars then no service and then back to all the bars.. it has to be the phone because i tried using the same sim on another unlocked 2g with 2.2 and it worked just fine aswell as another sim on the phone and still the same prob.. is there anything i can do to try to fix the problem i tried to restore the phone and re jailbrake it and still any ideas.

can i take it to the apple store and have them look at it even tho i dont have an at&t contract? when i checked the warranty status on the phone it said

1-Reset the phone
2-Reset network settings
3-Reseat the sim card
4-Give the phone a full charge...

just tried that it didnt work do you think it might be a hardware issue instead of a software issue?

any body? i tried to restore it over and over and i even tried to reset network settings and re insert sim..

Sounds like you may have a bad sim card.

I know you said it, I'm just saying that is what it sounds like. I have read threads where people were having to pad or shim their sim card to make it have a tighter connection.

i also tried that to put a piece of paper behind the sim card to make the connection tighter and it still didnt help im thinking it might be a hardware issue

You could be right. Did it just start all of a sudden? Have you considered going down to 2.1 to see if the 2.2 unlock is messing with you?

i bought the phone already like that so i cant really tell what started the problem but i did try to restore fw 1.1.4 on it and it didnt really help. could downgrading the baseband do it?

Well at this point it is worth a shot. Maybe it is time to sell it and pick up another one.
