I Need Help Tethering Iphone 3G to Windows Vista Laptop
Hello there...So i have an iphone 3g with firmware version 2.1, it is unlocked with a gevey sim adaptor. So I'm having major issues with tethering the iphone as a modem...I have tried iphone modem, pda net, and the 3proxy/mobile terminal methods, I can get none of them to work. I have unlocked the iphone and cydia works fine everything downloads and is functional on the iphone and i know how to start the ad-hoc network but thats were things go wrong because I see the ad-hoc network on my iphone under wi-fi and i can connect to it as long as i set it up as unencrypted but then on the laptop it doesen't awknowledge that my iphone is connected and the little icon in the bottom right has the red x and says something to the effect "waiting for someone to connect to your ad-hoc network"...Is there some setting or something with vista or something on the iphone i need to do to get this ad-hoc network to work?...Could it be firewalls that I have installed? btw i'm using tmobile if that helps....

You are not following the instructions. I know because I used pda net today for the first time and i wasnt either
. go back into your phone settings under wifi and hit connect.

i did follow the directions i think its vista though
thx for responding....I have done the connecting that you mentioned on the iphone but the problem seems to be with vista or the default wlan utility on my laptop because i was able to successfully use pdanet on my mother's winxp laptop....i think there is some setting or something in vista that needs to be changed so its the same as xp....

nope, did it today.... you just gotta follow the instructions down to the detail. didn't work for me until i re-read it and set the wireless up exactly as they say.

first off thank you for responding to the post...I have seen that most people have had success with vista I'm just looking to find someone that may have had a similar problem because I'm almost sure it has something to do with the wlan utility that came with the computer(toshiba) its called config free and so that could be it or maybe its one of the piece of garbage free demo pieces of software like the anti-virus which might be blocking the tethering through a firewall or something...The main reason for my believing it is something on my vista laptop is that as I mentioned before I have enjoyed success with pda net but only on my mothers win xp laptop...

I had problems with the Toshiba on Vista due to the Atheros wireless card. Never got the problem resolved and Toshiba never responded to my issue. Always works on everything else. Got fed up and gave up on Toshiba. Ugg

resolved?
Did you ever get it to work? I'm having an identical problem (also using a new toshiba laptop)and I'm sure I've gone about everything correctly. I'm not a very IT savvy guy, hwvr, this process is so simple that it would be difficult to screw-up. Any suggestions / help are appreciated. This is the sole reason for jb my iphone...ughh.
