Heres a musing that i was having.
|
So i was thinking to myself "exactly how much information is transmitted across the data plan network".
See, in PC land, I have a general idea at the incoming and outgoing information that circulates through my PC. I know that my IP address, my OS, my browser information, as well as certain performance specifications goes out over the internet whenever I go to someones web site.
And I know that generally speaking that information is more or less useless to the general populace, unless of course you happened to come across a person who actually knows what they are doing when it comes to hacking and data mining.
Never the less, the majority of us have little to worry about as most of us are smart enough to know where NOT to go, and what NOT to do.
It also helps if you play with things like TOR, Privoxy, NoScript, Peerguardian, and the multitudes of other things that help keep you "safe".
Of course no method is 100 full proof but every bit does help to a certain degree...
However, I was curious to know if it would be possible to get an actual cell phone number from someone who visited your web site.
So say for example, I go to somewhere like "modmyi.com", it's a pretty cool site, I go there alot. Obviously I have an IP address with my phone, and chances are it shows up in the server logs (as if Cash has anything else better to do with his time other then stare at server logs all day long).
I know that it is possible albeit unlikely to ascertain a persons home phone number from their IP address if they have DSL or Dialup, but I was curious if anyone knew it would be possible to do the same thing from a phone with a data plan.
No real reason at asking, it was just something I was thinking about. And as the rule goes if you are thinking about something chances are 100 other people are thinking about it.
Any thoughts on the subject matter? Can a website get your phone number just by you browsing on it with your iPhone?
Oh, and it's not a matter of "why" or "what would you do with it". It's simply a matter of "Can You". Nothing more, nothing less.
I look forward to your answers!
