Angry No 3G service in NYC Tri-state area last night

Between 12am-1am, we basically had no service to the network. A couple of times, bars showed up, but had no functionality. Couldn't send text greetings; couldn't make calls.

And my 2G iPhone? Completely functional.

One would think if the 3G network isn't available, the iPhone would automatically failover to the Edge network, but that didn't happen, even when I tried to push it through SBSettings.

Any else experience a loss of the 3G network?

BTW - Happy New Year everyone!

Sounds like your phone was acting up.

Cause 3g/edge connectivity has nothing to do with your ability to make phone calls, which you also said wasnt working. And the fact that your 2g was working fine....points to the 3g phone itself.

I'm in Northern NJ - another friend with a 3G also had the same problem. At first I thought it was my phone, and rebooted a couple of times. Would search and search, but kept getting "No Service." As stated in the OP, it only lasted 1 hour.

Edit: Spoke with ATT support. There was an outage in the area last night. Certain areas continue to experience outages - the support rep was in Indiana, and stated his phone makes a nice "paperweight."

Yeah I'm in NYC as well and no service. Just all the traffic on the towers. I called my cell from my dads phone. I listened and there was no ringing on his phone. I kept waiting for about 3 minutes and then my phone finally rang. My dad has Sprint. iRealSMS was going nuts on me. I kept getting errors saying SMS cannot be sent, even though they eventually sent.

    It's a normal thing I guess.
