Getting rid of native SMS on iPhone
I need help with deleting the native SMS client from my iPhone completely. I removed the SMS folder via SSH and moved it to my desktop as a backup. Reason being is that I want to use iRealSMS as my dafault client. I went into the settings and told iRealSMS to be the default but it doesn't work.
When I receive a text message I get the standard, reply or close box that pops up. That box pertains to the default SMS system still lingering around on the phone. Anywhere else I could look through SSH to remove any other SMS folders?
Here's a screenshot of my issue:

Now I want to get rid of this b/c iRealSMS has the feature to reply and not exit the current program you are in. I only can close it because if I hit reply it doesn't do anything because I removed the default SMS system off my iPhone through SSH. I just want to get the remaining traces of the default SMS off.Last edited by gQstatus05; 12-30-2008 at 08:19 AM.

Heres what I did instead of deleting the default SMS App, Installed iRealSMS, poofed the Default SMS icon, Went to Cydia and installed Pysl from iclarified I believe, Enable Pysl then under setting turn on SMS Popup and SMS Sound, this will block both of those stock sms items from running.. Hope this Helps...Mines works Awesome this way...

I don't need to poof the default because I already deleted it off my phone.
I'll try it and see if it works.Last edited by gQstatus05; 12-30-2008 at 10:00 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I dont think you want to delete the native SMS app, because what if your app crashes? or they delete it? you just want to have it just incase anything happends

This is strange for me as well because whenever I set iRealSMS as the default app, I never get the 'standard' pop up message, only the 'OPEN REPLY CLOSE' or the quick reply one.
However, iRealSMS has been very strange for me... crashes, freezes, etc. NOW, I have it set as the default SMS program, but I USE the stock program.
The stock program is fast and easy for me, so I send the first message there. Then, I'll get a quick reply message when they text back, and I reply from there. It's the best of both worlds for me

It's annoying the hell out of me. I even uninstalled and reinstalled iRealSMS. I turned off default sms application, resprung, enabled it, resprung and same issue. I downloaded that program Pysl and enabled that pop up blocker but the default box (screenshot above) still pops up. Sometimes, very rarely, the iRealSMS window WILL pop up when I get a message. I have OCD so it bugs me thinking about it every day.

Install SBsettings, or BossPrefs, go into Poof and make sure it's not poofed.

deleting it is what is causing probs
all the other sms apps i assume piggyback on the default one
restore your phone to get sms back.
just draggin back into the phone via ssh wont work
then install irealsms,
poof default sms
and then go to ireal settings and set as follows
basic settings:
default sms app = on
compatibility mode = off
UI settings:
atuo correction = u choose
enable auto capitalization = u choose
ask for confirm send = off
autorotate
show new sms icon = u choose
advanced settings:
show sms alerts = on
enable quik reply = on
enable master password = off
enables sent notifications = off
everything will work peachy

Months later the problem resurfaces. I don't get the iRealSMS pop up whenever I get a message anymore, again!
I've unpoofed the default SMS, deleted all messages from both locations. Rebooted, Removed iRealSMS, rebooted, installed iRealSMS and nothing.
Whenever I get a new SMS it displays:

Not the usual iRealSMS popup I'm used to. Now I do notice it says quick reply and I'm able to use this box to reply while in an app. I don't remember upgrading my iRealSMS in cydia and I'm not to sure if the 2.2 update gave SMS this feature.
The last app I installed was a chess game and I know that probably won't have anything to do with it.Last edited by gQstatus05; 02-24-2009 at 03:28 PM.

What he said won't work. I originally posted this thread when I had my old iPhone. This is a brand new one and I didn't delete the default SMS app I just hid it. IT's just that it doesn't work. Last time I was able to get the iRealSMS notification pop up was about 3 days ago. I diddn't install anything or do anything differently.
