Default Broken iPhone = wireless NAS?

Ok so I recently dropped my 2g iPhone on the tile floor of my bathroom and, while the glass is still intact, the bottom half of the screen is entirely unresponsive. My insurance paid for a new iPhone 3g but now I have this 8gb 2g sitting around and was thinking it would make a perfect little NAS. As half of the screen doesn't work (and the important half at that) any option that required much setup on the iPhone side wouldn't work, but is there any way to simply access the phone otherwise? I am unfamiliar with jailbreaking but would I be able to do that without iPhone-side configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated

If the screen (glass) isnt broke and its still under the 12month warranty Apple will replace it if its in good cosmetic condition.

    Its the digitizer that failed.

That's what exactly happened to my 2G iphone last year. It seems these things happen more to 2G iphones then 3G, i think its got to do with the extra weight on the 2G Iphones.
Iphone Love... I dreamed of a iphone before it was out..

Unfortunately I bought the phone on launch day so the warranty is long expired. As I already got a new 3g I really don't want to sink any more money into it, was mostly hoping for a way to use it for storage. If using it as a NAS is not possible then maybe just as a flash drive? Once again without being able to input much of anything on the iPhone itself. Thanks for the quick response!
