The General iPhone BATTERY discussion

Hi there folks,

how is it with you and the iPhone battery ? Since I adore my iPhone, the battery is my biggest enemy... nowadays I have to charge twice a day...

  • I am running 1.1.3 ... does upgrade to 1.1.4 help?
  • how long does your batter usually last ???
  • is the iPhone charged faster when charging from wall than from a laptop?
  • on eBay they are selling like a device that can charge your iPhone on the go about 3 times... and it is also rechargeable... anyone has experience with that ??? i can find the link i guess...

Mine lasts about one to days (24 - 48 hours) with very little phone use but quite a lot of WiFi.

Does your Usage ever show anything besides little dashes in Settings? If not, you are never getting a full charge and may have a defective battery. If it does, what kind of usage is it showing when you need a charge (get the 10% alert)?

I could not really tell, I'm almost always hocked to my laptop. Normally I can go about a day. Yes if you charge it with the wallcharger it charges faster. USB can provide only 500 mA = 0.5 Ampere but the wallcharger can supply 1.0 Ampere.

well i dont know if this is relevant but heres my story..

when I'm using my iPhone in the UK i get to use it for 2-3 days (normal use)
when I'm using my iPhone in Cyprus i get to use it for 4-5 hours (normal use)

i came to the point where i always carry my 3pin cable with me when I'm back home..
does anyone have any idea wtf is going on??

my guess is gprs drops or power issue.. but on the latter it can't be as a pc offers the same amount of power right ?

in settings, usage says: last time since last charge: usage 1:26 minutes, standby: 1:20 ... What do they mean by that?

It is nice to know now, that the wall charges the iPhone twice as fast as the laptop... That is kindof what I thought... And when you think about it, getting a day out of the battery is actually pretty good, because the display is huge...

But the only thing I would actually appreciate would be a setting that would put the iPhone automatically to sleep... Like for example after 2 minutes of not using it... Could

There is something I've noticed about that usage meter. If you use installer to install something the springboard has to respring in order to show your new app on the springboard. Or if you change your theme summerboard has to respring spring board to implement your new theme. Now the only way the usage meter can accurately show usage is if there is no respringing going on. After a respring the usage meter only shows lines and no info. After a full charge you unplug your phone and you're good. That is until you decide you want a new theme, use poof to hide an app, use categories to clean your homescreen, use customize to change or tweak something, etc etc. All those things will kill your usage meter. So I don't bother looking at it anymore because I do enough on my phone to cause a respring at some point during any given day. As for my battery life? Well after a full charge I notice the phone can survive almost 2 days on one full charge. Sometimes a little under 24 hrs. I think it just depends on what your doing. But I'm very impressed with the battery life for it being run on a device with such a big display.

Now my REAL dilemma at the moment is safari not saving cookies and not saving passwords so I have to login yet again before this message saves. Thank goodness this forum saves messages or I'd be pissed I typed all this for nothing LOL.
