Exclamation My step by step to jailbreak/unlock 3G...is this correct way?

I've been having weird reception problems with my 3G 2.1 iphone using a Gevey 3G adaptor. One day I simply shut it off and when I rebooted. I would lose reception and Edge within about a minute. It would go to "unlock".

    - Tried re-entering my pin.
    - Tried rebooting, same thing.
    - Tried putting my sim into a Tmobile phone then back to iphone and same thing. Reception and Egdge for about a minute only then it all drops.
    - Tried 2 other Gevey 3G sims and...Ughh..same result, it displayed full bars too.

I went ahead and went to DFU mode, restored and used Quickpwn. Here's my step by step

    1. DFU
    2. Shift+Restore
    3. After a couple of min, gave me message: Your iphone has been restored to factory settings...
    4. The iphone reboots and a message pops up saying: waiting for iphone,
    5. Then "itunes cannot activate your iphone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM pin is required" (I have my sim/adapter installed but don't enter pin)
    6. I unlplug iphone and shut off itunes.
    7. Start quickpwn
    8. After a successful install...same damn thing.

Get this, when I have reception/Edge and full bars for about a minute, I'm able to make/receive calls and txt msgs. However under Settings/General/About, it says "Network Not available"

When I try using Youtube or Maps i get "Could not activate cellular data network: You are not subscribed to a cellular data service"

Can somebody please tell me if I'm doing all these steps correctly? When I first got this phone I did it smoothly with no problems now It just doesn't want to work. Does it not like this particular sim adaptor or what?

I really don't want to sell my iphone and get a G1, can somebody please help??

Read my post again, I tried that.

After I restore and then get the message "itunes cannot activate your iphone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM pin is required". Do I go ahead and use Quickpwn or did it fail and I have fully restore again??

    Problem solved!

Last thing I thought of before selling this thing was going down to the local Tmobile store and purchased a new sim card. They activated it for me, popped in my Tmobile cell first then restored and jailbroke the iphone again and walla....I was able to get reception again on my iphone.

I'm not sure why all of a sudden my iphone didn't like my old sim card. I was able to use it with no problems in my Tmobile cell but the iphone definitely didn't like it!

Anyways everything seems back to normal.
