WTB a 3g 16gb but have ?s
I am working at a new manuacturing facilty. The equipment being installed is mostly by a German company. One of the programmers wants to purchase an iphone but de to the time bieing in the states does not want to sign up for a contract.
Also, he wants to be able to take the phone back and use it in Germany.
1. Where would you recommend puchaing a 3G 16gb
2. How can he use the phone in the USA then take it back and use is in Germany?
3. If he activates it in the USA will he be able to use it in Germany?
Thanks in advance.

You cannot purchase a new phone without a contract so unless you're willing to pay for the phone, cancellation fee, and first month of service then your only options are Ebay or the local craigslist. Using the phone back in Germany is fine as long as there is a compatible provider. If you're wanting to use the phone on a provider that requires the phone to be unlocked then you'll have to purchase a proxySIM (look up turboSIM).

a monthly plan with most providers requires a one year contract, I learned this the hard way with tmobile. They never gave me a phone or mentioned a contract, but when i quit them they said "oh, the contracts on our website" so i said "yeah? did i sign your website genius?" They're still waiting on their $200
read the fine print is all I'm saying

well i thought about it, but it's just that one thing. Also they sent it to collections and i said show me the contract and I'll show you the money. They wrote me a nice letter saying they could not produce a contract and i never heard again from them, but i do need to check my credit report to see what the status is on that.

sorry to the OP, not trying to hijack your thread, just trying to give this member some advice.
be sure you do that. i check my credit report every year around tax time. it is free and your entitled to it. i had issues when i went to buy my first house a couple years ago and i had to pay off all my debts in collection. was around $900. i never knew how important credit was when i was younger. now i can finance almost anything i want. just remember, things like this will bite you in the a** someday.
