Email - missed calls and voice mail icon on the top line ? How to?

Hi, I just got a new to me Iphone,
2g with 2.2 - Jailbreak-unlock on Tmobile.

My questions:
When the screen is locked, I hit the home key -
how can I get little icon of the top line next to the date/bluetooth icons that would show if I have any email/ voice mail / missed calls ?

Right now, just to check if I have some I need to slide the bar, enter my passcode to see that. Just hitting home key and seeing the icons on the top line would be great.

you can download either statusnotifier or notifier in cydia
