I'm going from 1st Gen. to 3G....any advice?
I am giving my old 2G iPhone to my daughter for Christmas and am going to get a new 3G for myself.
Is there anything I need to know before I make the switch?
Thanks in advance,

If you're jailbroken I'd save you files manually and put them on your 3G later. Don't restore from backup is what I've always been told!

Read the hardware comparison review by One1 before you give away your 2G.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Yeah, I should have said to begin with, my 2G is Unlocked,Jailbroken, etc.(was never under contract to ATT but contract is up)
I will have to sign a new 2 year contract for the 3G...guess there is no way around that, huh?
How do I "save my files manually" to put on the 3G?Last edited by Jeffwo; 12-05-2008 at 09:34 AM.

your gonna love the 3G. i have the 16gb black model with a griffin elan form case. the data is so much faster. bill costs a little more a month, but well worth it. enjoy it.

Thanks for the heads up.
I will hafta keep the 3G in a good silicone case, I guess. Seeing as how the 3Gs aren't nearly as well built.
Is there no factory warranty on 3Gs?
I will get the 2G one back in a few months I suspect. My daughter never keeps a phone over a few months anyway. She has had the Blackberrys and now has a Tilt. She will want the next, greatest thing that comes along, then I will get my old 2G back. It will be kept in the family...LOL.

Yes you will have to sign a new 2 year contract when you buy the 3G phone. The warranty is 1 year as with any other Apple product unless you buy the 2 year Apple Care plan. The draw backs to the 3G: battery life is about 30% less.. the screen has a dull yellow tint to it... and the overall construction is just cheap compared to the sturdy aluminum first generation.
