Iphone phone problem...
When I place a call and raise the phone to my ear, the screen goes blank (normal). The problem is when I lower the phone to punch a number (answering the frequent "to speak to Service, press..." automated attendant type info) the screen stays blank. It's like the accelerometer doesn't know I have lowered the phone. I also sometimes "press" buttons on the touch screen with my cheek while I talk. This sometimes cuts calls off.
What gives?

had the same issue. i just rebooted the phone and it worked fine for me. dont know if it will fix your issue but mine was that the screen would stay blank when i lowered the phone, so i had to touch the screen to turn it on, usually pushing the wrong button and hanging up or launching some crap

It's actually a heat sensor I think up hear the ear piece. First think I would do is restore and use the phone without any jailbroken apps. If it still gives you problems then you'll know it's a hardware failure.

What model iphone ? do you have it in a case ? some cases can block the sensor if so try without the case on.

apummell, you win! I took it out of the case and voila! I am sorry to the rest of you, who must have assumed I was smarter than I am. Heat sensor? Who knew? Oh, I guess everyone but me. I elected to try the easiest fix first, but it didn't occur to me until you all replied. Thanks.
