I can SSH on one side of campus but not the other
My school runs two wireless networks one for residential side and one for the academic site. I can SSH and ping my phone on the academic side, but the residential side (where my computer and I am most of the time) wont let me ping or ssh. I cant even set up my own router either, they sent out an email saying we have a new wireless system intact and personal routers may have problems... well mine does.
Anyone have any ideas what this could be? I dont think i can really tell them i cant hack into my phone can you turn so and so firewall off can i? Im tired of having to bring my laptop to the other side of campus and finding a spot to install all the stuff i wanna install etc etc. What can i do?

Sounds like a port forwarding problem. You'd have to ask them, honestly, since it's obvously a problem on their end. No way that anyone here can help you
there are programs for PC and mos that will do file transfer over USB (and they're a lot faster than ssh)

yeah i tried the iphone tunnel. It does the same thing for some reason. It asks for the ip of my phone and i put that in same problem. I mean, it would have to be a firewall thing then cause the ethernet comes from the same internet as the wireless you know? But yeah i guess i can ask them? I just dont know what specifically to ask them and the level of care they would have for a problem like this. Thats all i was hoping to accomplish by posting this here was to get some opinions on what to say possibly. Thanks tho i appreciate it.

just tell them that you're trying to use winSCP to SSH into a device and that it's not working, but works fine on the other network.
They might be able to help you out. I've never tried it outside of the network at my house, so I can't really help much, but I did have to setup port forwarding to get it working correctly. Hope that helps at all
good luck

I would be nervous SSHing over a network where tons of other people are connected...
