What to replace on a water damaged phone?

Hi!

Does anyone have a view on the most common component(s) I'd need to replace, for a water damaged 2G?

I have one which seems to be water damaged - half a pink line showing down the headphone jack -and when trying to boot it gets as far as the Apple logo and then goes off - same when attempting to enter DFU mode. It did once briefly show a very low looking battery icon but despite being on charge for a number of hours didn't progress any further.

Anyway I'm up for a project & a bit of learning so wondered if "such & such a board" (say the main logic board?) would be the best place to start in terms of replacement items and I could possibly look out for one on eBay.

Having re-read my own post... does this sound like a battery issue?? :-)

Cheers,

Steve

Water damage is hard to tell till you start doing stuff.

My first guess would be the flex cable, as its normally the first hit and by the way VERY hard to replace. Depending on the amount of water damage it could lead to the mobo and communications board. Could damage the battery and also the screen (LCD and or digitizer).

The fact that it still comes on is a good thing....I would start with the flex cable.
