3G 2.2 firmware still laggy?

I've noticed that on a friend's 3G iphone with firmware 2.1 the SMS app and the Settings app were a bit laggy. Specifically, after tapping the Settings icon, it took about 1-2 seconds to enter the settings menu. The SMS app was also slow, not while typing, but when loading the actual conversations. Is this also the case with firmware 2.2? Thanks in advance for the input

I havent really noticed a difference in speed from 2.1....but then again mine is hacked out....which draws off the speed anyways.
