Push email for Gmail?
Yeah.... been waiting for a solution for a while... does anyone know one? Or some sort of workaround?
Thanks,

I know that Yahoo has push but never heard of gmail with push. I do not think that GMail has push, but I might be wrong. Lets see what other will say. If it has push it will be cool.

Alas, Gmail does not have push email. I made a Yahoo account for this very reason.

I'm pretty sure the G1 has push Gmail. If they can do it on the G1, what prevents someone from implementing it on the iPhone?

i have a feeling that Yahoo! and Apple made an agreement that they would be the only free push email service. just think, if all free email apps were push, how would they sell MobileMe?

Its Google that controls whether it has push Gmail or not. Different phones can't have different push/not push for the same email.
And besides, Apple can't control the prices of the other emails push service.
Oh and if all had push email, Apple would not allow push to make people that wanted push badly buy MobileMe.Gamertag - Scikotic IT Guy

But I've seen some people saying that there's such a huge delay for mails from Yahoo to push to the phone at times that it's not worth the bother...

Huge delay? There's not for me. Where I live I get full signal, when and if I'm not connected to wifi, so that might be why. The most I've seen is like a 5 minute difference in the times.
And as for forwarding? I don't really use email to talk to people, so I just went to places like MySpace and Facebook and changed my email addys there. It really doesn't take that much time to change them.Gamertag - Scikotic IT Guy

gmail does offer push email, just not for the iphone. imagine how less succesful mobileme would be with the almighty goog offering a push service to the iphone.
my brother has the g1 and gets google talk/gmail etc etc all pushed straight to his phone. push google talk literally kicks ***

If you have also a MobileMe account, you can have Gmail pushing, just follow this Gmail and MobileMe - Living Together in Perfect Harmony - Jordan Brock - Pith.

You can use my new app called EmailPush in the app store now. It will push your gmails directly to your phone within seconds, popping up who its from and the subject and optionally part of the body even while it's sleeping. Anyone who wants to try it can contact me at my email address listed in the application description. The first 10 people who contact me will get a promo code to get the application for FREE!

Or just add the GMail account as an exchange account following Googles very own guide, here:

This could be good for those of us that already use the Exchange sync for work email.
Might have to try it.
