Default iPhone Support Question Appreciate Any Help

    Hey Guys,

I'm in the UK and I have an iPhone 2G which I purchased from the o2 website. When I got the iPhone I unlocked it with ziphone and used it with a T-Mobile sim. So I never activated the o2 contract.

Anyway, now my iphone keeps freezing up and I'm still within my 1 year of purchasing it.

Anyway, my question is can I still get support from Apple even though I have not activated the o2 contract?

    Would appreciate any help guys...

    Thanks,

Not sure about the UK, but in North America, Apple will not support you unless you have an active account under contract.

restore the phone in itunes to latest firmware then grab ANY o2 sim card and put it in, plug phone into itunes and it will activate. it can be ANY o2 sim, just a random pay as you go one will do. ANY o2 sim card will activate in itunes, and thats all apple needs to know.

you say you used ziphone which makes me think your still on 1.x? the phone freezing sounds like a software issue and a restore should fix this. if you do go to the latest firmware (2.2) and still want to use tmobile you can still unlock the phone like you did with ziphone.

the reason i say this is because ziphone was not a good way to jailbreak + unlock. very unstable and unsafe, as documented many times before. it may be this causing problems with your phone. if a restore fixes this as it sounds it will you wont need to go to apple. if you take it to apple NOT on the latest firmware, they will only tell you to go home and restore it to the latest firmware and see how it is or waste your time in store by doing it there.

if you are using a mac just follow the guide here for quickpwn or the pwnagetool. if your using windows its slightly more difficult but i have no problem helping you do it, ill PM you my email address. you can get me on that if you need more help.

ps. i would recommend switching to the o2 simplicity tariff anyways as an iphone user. it is the best tariff which will also give you warranty from apple if needed
