After 2.2 upgrade 2g won't charge

Hi All,

I've tried to search for a similar issue but was unsuccessful. same topics come up but from a year ago. Need some help here. After I updated and restored my jailbroken iphone 2g, it does not seem to be holding a charge. It only has a little sliver of red. I've restored twice, updated itunes, rebooted phone. When I first restored, it gave me an error saying, Iphone cannot retore because of error 2006 or something, but I finally got it to work and it restored. But ever since then it wont charge up. I left it connected all night to my MAC but still nothing. Now I have it plugged into an outlet, still doesnt seem to go green. the only thing I havent done is created a new phone instead of restoring from back up. Anyone have a similar issue after upgrading to 2.2? Is my phone dead? Help!

thanks,

after several failed attempts I restored but chose "new phone" this time. Lets see if it charges....Still looks red to me. Anyone else have this issue? I have not synced yet because I am nervous it will mess it up again.

I had this issue right after upgrade and jailbreak to 2.2. My solution was a simple respring then restart. Make sure it is plugged in when you do it.

Thanks, but I haven't even done the jailbreak yet. I left it connected all night to my MAC and it still doesn't charge. Is my phone ******? what could cause the issue because when I was on 2.1 it was fine. THe next thing I am going to try is downgrading back to 2.1 and see what happens.

I had a similar issue when I upgraded to 2.1. My iPhone would only hold a charge for a couple hours. I did not want to jailbreak it if I needed to take it in for replacement. Yes, It was still under warranty. I also found out that some apps, like mail, did not function correctly. Apparently, some of the permissions got screwed up and carried over to my newly upgraded, but not yet jailbroken, iphone when I did a restore. After I did the jailbreak, I installed BigBoss's Prefs and ran the Fix Permissions. I then was able to charge my iPhone and it held its charge. Maybe this will fix your problem, maybe it won't. Hopefully it does.

Same Issue

I am having the same issue with charging. After upgrading to 2.2 it will barely hold a charge for more than 4 or 5 hours (thats just leaving the phone sitting on a table) It has never been like this. Anyone else have any suggestions as to what to do?

update

I have left it charging to the wall outlet all day here at work, and its about 80% charged. I guess restoring it to new worked but charging is really really slow. Im not sure what to do now, when I get home I am going to give jailbreaking a go and see if I can fix the permissions with bossprefs and maybe that can fix the problem. I just hope I can jailbreak successfully. wish me luck...

well, I tried to jailbreak twice with Quikpwn for mac, it goes through the whole process, says "ihaz success" gets stuck on the apple logo for about 5-6 minutes maybe longer, restarts but no CYDIA or INSTALLER! WTF? AND i actually restored new right before I did it, just to be safe. uggghhh... this is getting really fustrating.

Hi frrok,
I am sorry to hear that you are having issues. I am sure you already have this link, but I'll post it anyways. QuickPwn OSX Guide | iPhone News, Help and Guides This guide by far is one of the easiest to follow that I have come across. I follow his guide for the PC, and yes there are some differences from the guide and what exactly shows up during the process, but it is still a very good guide.
As for why Cydia is not showing up, I have read that if you had Categories installed, it could screw it up. I came across these instructions to fix it.
If cydia is not working:
1: Restore phone from iTunes.
2: Jailbreak your phone.
3: Install boss prefs from Cydia, and unhide the wanted icons.
The only problem I see with that is if you can't find Cydia because it is hidden, then how are you expected to install boss prefs to unhide it.
Of course I am assuming that Cydia did get installed it is just not visible. This link might be more promising, How To Restore Your 2.1 Backup | Sleepers.net. You might be interested in step 2b.
This link has the same infomation, HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - Cydia Installed, but not showing up on springboard
Hope this helps.

update 2

acrucesalus -thanks for the advice! good links to have.

Well, let's see, when I left off my phone was un-jailbroken and having power issues. Well, I limited my use of the phone for about a day and half and charged it whenever possible. charges would go up slightly even after hours spent connected(and this is charging in the outlet not my MAC). Finally one night after it was charged up to about half, I left it charging over night and woke up the next day to a full charge! I was stoked. I decided to give it a few days without syncing and charged it in the wall outlet. It was was working great. I decided after 3 days to go for the jailbreak. That was yesterday, what do you know,Quikpwn ihaz success! Cydia installed, jailbreak working perfectly! Stoked again.... BUT .... NOw I am back to the same issue of charge not holding. Actually I noticed that whenver my phone is connected to my MAc, the batttry begins to drain, or doesnt charge at all. So I actually shut off the phone, left it connected to wall outlet again, and left it at about 57% charge(added a cool batterey theme that tells me that). So here I am at work, charging away and its still only at 57%. better than half I guess. In the next few days I am going to try and limit the amount of time I connect it to my MAC. See what happnes. I really hope it returns to a full charge like the last time. I don't want to Restore and jailbreak AGAIN. its nerve racking....

the saga continues.

still having issues

Well, I am still having issues. It seems like my phone WILL NOT charge, or rarely charges when it is ON. It only fully charges when it is off and usually it takes all night to get a full charge. THis is very very frustrating. I am convinced that 2.2 messed up my phone. I never had any charging issues before the update. I can't seem to find anyone else who has had a similar issue. I have no idea what it could be that is creating this problem. Could it be a hardware thing? please help!

before you upgraded to 2.2, how often did you have your phone plugged in? (mac and wall combined)

How old is your phone? The batterys are only designed to last 300-400 charges (about a year) before you will start to notice significant decline in performance.

damn, my phone is over a year old... I didn't realize that battery would go so quick. I usually charged it whenever possible, at work and at night. I hate to be left with a low battery. I love my 2G, really would rather not get a 3G right now. hate to be locked in for another 2 years with the same phone. kind of waiting to see if another iphone comes out(32G?). I guess I am screwed...

thanks guys,
-frroK
