Hello folks. First post, and a question. (sorry didn't know where to put this)
Hello, my name is iDCP

First post here, I am here to get information about the iPhone, iPod Touch, and many other Apple products. Apple touch screen devices fascinate me. I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch with 7.1GB of memory, and I am looking towards getting an iPhone for x-mas. It could be a 3G iPhone or the 1st-gen iPhone, it doesn't matter, as long as it's an iPhone
Still no jailbreak for the 2G obviously. It upsets me, and it's one of the reasons why I'm about to sell it and get an iPhone. I should be getting $200 for x-mas, and if I sell my iPod touch, I should have $400. I'll use the $175 to cancel my Sprint cell phone service, and switch to either ATT or T-mobile. I'll have $275 left over, so then I'll sell my cell phone (the HTC Touch) which should be worth over $250. I should have more than $500 after that, so I will try and aim for a 16GB iPhone. Sound like a good plan?
But I'm still trying to decide whether to use ATT for 3G or T-Mobile for an unlocked iPhone 1st-gen. Which one is better? T-mobile is less expensive, but slower with edge. ATT is more expensive, but faster with 3G. I am in a dilemma
What should I do?
BTW this place looks like a great opportunity. I can't wait to meet all you nice people! (It's on the internet, but regardless it's still exciting
)

Service is dependent only on region. Where you are is all that matters.

For me, the price difference is a tremendous factor as I'm a college student and couldn't afford my tuition and 3g service. So I personally went with T-mobile. But the 3Gs are pretty slick. Do some more research and see what suits you best.

Well, I'm a high school student, so I don't think I can afford the 3G service either

My parents give me an allowance of $60 a month on a prepaid debit card, so there's no way in hell I would be able to pay $70 a month + tax for my cell phone bill. I think I'm just going to buy a 1st-gen iPhone and use it with T-Mobile (or is there any way to use a 1st-Gen iPhone on AT&T some how?)

the iPhone is allot more productive with 3g connection. i know that a software unlock is not far away thanks to the dev team, and i believe t mobiles 3g will work with the iphone 3g by xmas? im from the uk so just pick up little bits here and there about america.
if i where you, i would buy a payg 3g around xmas, the software unlock should be out by then, and get a tmobile contract as i believe its cheaper than at&t.... i think...The Original Autobot of MMiJesus couldn't turn into a fire engine

AT&T's 3G is different from T-Mobile's 3G, afaik, the iPhone 3G wouldn't work with T-Mobile's 3G, because AT&T and the iPhone use the tri-band (850mhz, 900mhz, 1800mhz) while T-mobile uses a different broadband, I forgot what they were, but one of them was 2100mhz. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

However if the iPhone 3G did work with T-Mobile's 3G, I would buy the iPhone 3G, unlock it, and use it on T-mobile. Wouldn't that be too expensive though? How much is a regular iPhone 3G without the contract?

but i swear i read somewhere that tmobile was rolling out 1800mhz 3g by christmas?
MY BAD, tmobile supports the downlink but not the uplink, so it wont work.
i would recommend getting the 3g on at&t, IF 3g is available in your area.Last edited by reeko; 11-23-2008 at 02:27 PM.

AT&T's 3G pretty much covers my whole entire state. I live in the Maryland D.C area.
But the thing is, how would i pay the bill? My parents dont want me using my allowance to pay just for the iphone. I dont know why, that's my parents, and I can't do anything about it. So I probably have no choice but to use T-Mobile with the original iphone.
Thanks anyway though.
