Grey lines on iphone display
Hi guys.
My iPhone recently started to get growing grey lines at the bottom of the screen. I've searched around at it seems more people than I have the same problem. I read somewhere that it could be due to moisture. Anyone here had the problem and solved it? I have restored the software but the problem stays.

I'm in the same situation as you are, except that i have large grey areas instead of lines. All happened overnight and hasn't grown since it happened. Did you find any cure that doesn't require going to the applestore?
Also, does anyone know which part this affects, in case I were to replace it?

I had the same problem. Started off as red dots and the next day it was grey lines that seemed to move daily. I took it in to the Apple store and without more than 15 words from the genius bar guy I was handed a brand new phone. I think I only had a week left on the warranty.

It would be the LCD.
On a 2g phone, you have to buy/install the entire assembly (glass, digitizer, LCD).
On a 3g phone, you can buy/install the LCD only.

sorry to bump an old topic, but if anyone else has this, just press down with some pressure with a sharpie marker on the lines. they'll turn red, and should disappear within a few days. some pixels might stay there. just try the next day. this process will take a while..but it's the only solution other than buying a new screeen that i found.

hi i have the same problem and im also really unlucky and this has happened overnight suddenly abotu 2 weeks outside my warranty, does anybody think might get any luck just going into apple and pretrndign i dont know baout my warranty? or will they just check it and tell me to get lost? im not in a position to beable to pay for upgrade to 3gs or to get it fixed, so am i just out of luck? i have tried the above fix but to no avail, just so frustrating as its so close to my warranty end! and more frustrating that im a loyal iphone owner who had the 1st gen iphone from day 1 and as a result all my brothers and family got iphones too on my recomendation...., would like anybodys thoughts where i would hjave nay luck in apple or not to waste my time? cheers

hi guys !
i had the same problem with the grey lines on my 3g.
i noticed that they varies from day to day.
they got longer when the temperature was colder.
when the phone was in use or in my pocket they got shorter.
heat (35°-40°C)helped i my case and finaly the grey lines are gone and they doesn`t come again !
i hope it works in your case too !

I doubt the apple store people will tell u to go away. From what I've heard, they'll try their best to help u fix the problem. If it's under warranty, though, it makes it easier for them because they can just give you a new phone.

You have to replace the LCD screen. Its a hardware problem.
