Is there a way to force the iphone into 3g?

In my office i have medium/poor 3g, but have a little better edge singnal. While I am teathering with PdaNet, Is there a way to force my phone to only use the 3g network(even if it cuts in and out), and never use edge?

I had an app for windows mobile called bandswitch that did exactally what I am looking for and I am looking to see if there is a similar app for the jailbroken iphone.

You can use Boss Prefs to turn Edge off and only use 3G

Bosspref can turn off EDGE

It doesn't work for me. When I use BossPrefs and turn off edge, it shuts down my data network even though I have a strong 3G signal.

Did anyone find a way to do this?
I am interested in this as well. BossPrefs will shut down the entire internet connection when disabling EDGE
