This guide is written using a macbook running 10.5.5 and tethering using pdaNet, connecting your xbox 360 to your macbook with an ethernet cable.
Step 1:
Setup and connect pdanet to your macbook so that your macbook is up and running online.
Step 2:
System Preferences/Sharing
Make sure internet sharing is shared from airport to ethernet.
Step 3:
On your xbox, scroll to the right on the homescreen and go to network, and setup manually.
the IP and DNS sections are seperate.
We will get the IP up and running first.
Step 4:
On your mac, open Terminal from Utilities and type "ifconfig en0" without the speechmarks, and thats the number 0 not O.
You are looking for inet, which should be 192.168.2.1
On your xbox network settings, the router is this number.the IP address section is the same first 3 sets of numbers but a higher number for the last set of the 4 and the subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0
so in my case:
IP : 192.168.2.x (x being anything greater than 1)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.2.1
If you click done and test xbox live, it should pass the IP address but fail at DNS, so...
Step 5:
System Preferences/ Network / Airport / Advanced / DNS
you want to note down this number, then go to
System Preferences / Network/ Ethernet
and enter this number into the DNS server section and click apply.
Step 6:
Now on your xbox, type in the same number into the primary and secondary settings and your done. Test xbox live connection and with any luck
At the moment, 3g connections have restricted ports from the operators, so the best NAT setting you can get is moderate, but i get strict. However, i have played GoW2, CoD4 + 5 over live in full rooms with voice chat and no lag
It's lateand im tired, hope this makes sense to you guys. Wanted to get it up as my internet went down a couple days ago and found this to be pretty reliable when needed.
This same method can also be used to share your wireless connection on your macbook (no ethernet cable from the router) and from any other 3g card.
