can i swap my iphone?
ok so i bought my iphone off of craigslist. It is a 16gb 1gen and it has a crack at the top and 2 line cracks coming straight down the screen. Now i have checked and have found out that my warranty expires in feb. 2009 and was wondering if i can swap it out for another? I have heard that all you need to do is go to the apple store with your iphone (no box/accesories) and they can swap it or whatever. Now is this true? Also will i have to have a box and reciept and all accessories with me when i go to the apple store? Or can i just walk in, tell them my iphone is cracked and they replace it? Also will i need to restore it as it is unlocked/jailbroken? Also will i have to bs about having att or can i say i got it as a gift? Please someone help me out. Thanks

Apple wont replace something you (or someone else) broke. Yes it might be under warranty, but that does not cover damage caused by the owner. So, no they wont replace it for you.

Dude, its a manufacturers warranty.
This means it covers "manufacturers defects" and thats ALL. No user damage like a cracked screen, water damage, etc.
And PS- If they covered cracked screens, you wouldnt find 100's of iphones with cracked screens on ebay.Last edited by cpjr; 11-11-2008 at 06:18 PM.

You can try repairing it yourself. But it would cost you around 185$ for the whole new Screen Assembly.

You can....its a task to do properly but can be done. You can also keep a check on ebay...if you know what to look for you can find a phone that is "broken" in some way but has a good screen....transplant it and come out cheaper.

Good luck taking it to Apple... sorry to say I KNOW they will give you the "sucks for you" speech, but I will keep my fingers crossed anyhow.

sami4021, you can PM "One1" and he can help you out (for a fee of course). Unfortunately, there is no way Apple is going to help you out.
If my post was helpful to you, hit the thanks button!

Fee? I've never asked anyone for anything, and no I can't make a broken screen become anew.
