You can poke holes in the speaker membrane. It really does work. I've done it on two and the difference is huge.

Yeah -- if he has the old v1 iPhone.

Has anyone tried or heard of anyone trying to replace the earpiece speaker on a first generation iphone?

My BB pearl must be at least 5x louder(not scientific), than the iPhone. I too am having problems hearing when I hold the phone to my ear with volume at maximum. With the BB I can hear the person talking without even holding it to my ear, and cannot have it on full volume or it hurts because its so loud. Unfortunately with iPhone turned all the way up, i still have a lot of difficulty hearing.

I was thinking about the possibility of tryng to put the earpiece speaker from the BB into the iPhone, but of course have no clue about size, or power requirements, etc... Does anyone have any insight into if this is possible?

Even if it is possible to replace with some other speaker, not sure there is enough power going to the speaker to give the anticipated result.

The 3g speaker has a "mesh" covering over it....cant really poke it out. Does help to swipe it out every now and then, but doesnt work as well as needling the first-gen.
