HELP! iPhone error 6
Ok here is my story. Last week I dropped my iphone in the toilet. I quickly took it out and let it dry and used a hair dryer to dry it. After 2 days I plugged it in and everything seemed to work. It holds a charge and everything on the outside works fine. When I plug it into my computer it says this iphone needs to be restored but when I click restore it gets to the "waiting for iphone" part, then it pops up saying error 6 and the iphone reboots into the recovery mode. I have to believe that this has something to do with the water. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I might need to do, hardware or software wise? Is there something I need to replace inside the phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jesse

First try placing the iphone into DFU mode...NOT recovery mode and restore.
DFU:
1. Itunes open, phone plugged in...iphone off.
2. Hold down POWER for 5 seconds....
3. WITHOUT letting go of POWER, now start holding down HOME button (both down) for 10 seconds.....
4. Let go of POWER, CONTINUE holding HOME button until Itunes recognizes phone and tells you to restore (about another 10-20 seconds)
If that doesnt work...you probably have a hardware issue from the water damage. Contact one1 on this board he can fix it.
PS- Can also try this: http://www.technipages.com/iphone-error-6.htmlLast edited by cpjr; 11-02-2008 at 12:11 PM.

You need fully functional home and power buttons to enter DFU so if one or both is damaged ur S.O.L.

flex cable, click the link in my sig to see it. Problem is that the cable is probably OK, you shorted the terminals out at the connector. I've successfully repaired a FEW terminals before. I can take a shot at it if you want.

You can replace them, but it takes some skills. The parts can be found on ifixit.com. You will likely want to order the iPhone tool kit as well from ebay or other source. Taking the iPhone apart is the hardest part. If you don't have the patience or skills, I would suggest finding someone who does. You could end up damaging it even more if you're not careful.

How much would it cost for me to repair it and is there any way I can make sure that that is the problem?
