I cant see anything on my iphone 2g it wont turn on. I saw something that I could put the phone in dfu mode when connected to the computer it worked but when itunes tried to recover the phone it say an error accured (1601). Please help me guys I would really appreciate it. Thanks

make sure its on ddfu mode and not recovery mode.. check youtube and you will see exactly how its done.

download a 2G iphone firmware from iClarified...

then put your phone into DFU mode... (care, 1.1.4 and below has different methods of going to DFU mode compared to 2.0 and above...)

then restore it with itunes...

if you need to jailbreak it, use winpwn for windowns, or pwnage tool for mac..

both phones go into DFU the same way, and you will need quickpwn to jailbreak and unlock 2.1. winpwn for 2.1 has not been released yet. Im pretty sure you can download 2.1 from MMI or a torrent site of your choosing.
