I've fallen asleep many times with it in my hand (usually waiting for the cydia repo to refresh, RSS feeds to download, or for an application to install...lol). And when I fall asleep, I drop it on the floor... I've figured out though, that the iPhone has some feature built into it, which uses the accelerometer to sense that it is falling, and automatically takes a screen shot of the current screen; that way, in case it hits the floor too hard, and all the icons get moved around and scattered, then you have a picture you can use as a reference, so you can re-organize them back to where they were before the fall.
Thankfully, I have not had it hit the floor hard enough yet to actually make the icons scatter all over the places, because my bed is low, I have one of those cool rubber cases that bounce when it falls, and the carpet in my room also cushions the fall...===========================================
DFU Restore Mode - Quick How-To:
1. Power phone OFF.
2. Hold power + home for 10 seconds.
3. Let go of power and continue to hold home until iTunes finds the phone.

Ahh! So it's like a jig-saw puzzle? You have the main picture automatically enabled by Apple so you can fit the smaller bits back together again?
God, I'm loving my phone more & more each day.

If you hold down the home screen and then press the power button it'll take a screenshot of your phone. Lol. I sleep with applelonia on the left and my girl on the right.. Best of both worlds man.

Okay, I just put Andrew's theory to the test - and it doesn't work!!

To simulate falling asleep I threw my iPhone at a brick wall from approx 6ft (my height).
Not only did the icons not scatter, but it also didn't take a screen shot. However the screen is now cracked and there's a nasty dent in it!
Maybe I should have made snoring noises as I threw it?

^^You see, the iphone can also determine if you are "faking" it out.
