iPhone Touchscreen Not Working - At All
My wife's iphone (jailbroke T-Mo on FW 2.1) has been working great until recently. It started dropping calls a lot. I didn't think it was too big of a deal until today when the touchscreen stopped responding. According to her, here is what happened.
She asked our 3 year old to bring her the phone from the bedroom. She did and she called me at work. Then we got disconnected (problem above). She called me from home phone and said the phone says "Insert Sim". I told her maybe it was dropped by our 3yr old. She said no, so Iasked her to remove the sim and re-insert. She took it out and said it felt damp. Like there was condensation on it. (NOT GOOD!) I asked if there was ANY chance it feel in the toilet or water poured on it. She insisted no. I told her to hair dry the sim and gently dry the phone.
She inserted sim and couldn't use the touchscreen at all. NOTHING. I walked her through a restore through iTunes. That went fine. Then she disconnected and I asked her test the screen. Still NOTHING. Can't power off, push buttons to make E-Call, NOTHING.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I've opened this phone recently to replace the vibrate switch and that went fine. I'm sure the suggestions will be to open it back up and check connections (which I will), but are there any other suggestions that I can try before doing that?
It was working 100% for a few weeks. What usually causes this? I've read physically damage (dropping of phone is most likely cause). WOuld slight water do this and yet everything else work OK?
Thanks!

Digitizers fail all the time for no good reason. If your connections are good, it's toast. When the board is screwed down, it compressed the connector to the motherboard so it is extremely hard for there to be a bad connection. As long as you didn't remove the motherboard when you fixed the switch, and there's no reason to, the digitizer has failed.

Yeah and they cost about $170 on ebay. Figured I'd try everything I else before making that plunge.
I just replaced the switch / hp jack etc...for like $50 including tools to open it.
Thanks for the reply.

Yeah they are crazy. If your wife wasn't picky I am about to put a phone in the classifieds here for $250 shipped that has a cracked screen but works 100%. Anyway, check the connections on it for kicks and good luck.

I may be interested in the phone for $250 if you have pics. My wife's not that picky, I am. My fear would be that crack growing quick with any slight bump?

Na glass is glued to the digitizer. You can break all the glass around an iPhone and leave just the screen with cracks all down it and it'll stay the same forever due to the glue. I'll be home in a few mins and show you.
