iPhone Overheating

I have a first generation Iphone and for some reason right after i updated it to 2.1 its been overheating and im nt sure why. i do use it every day cause it is my ipod as well and i play one game, i rarely use the internet, its never done this before. Anyone no how i can stop it from over heating. Is it a bad thing if it over heats?

like how hot? cuz they do get warm when really using them. If it gets to bad id go to apple and *****. i remember some kid saying his heated up really bad when he was sleeping and it made a red mark on his leg. they gave him a new one.
