everything seemed to be working fine but when I went to get into itunes to restore my contacts etc, said "could not connect to the phone because of invalid response from devise????? What do I do now?

restart the pc and try a different usb port

I have restarted the pc, I have restarted the phone, same error message

next would be to re-install itunes...is the iphone recognized by the pc when plugged in?

yes it recognizes the phone. If I re-install itunes won't I lose my stuff that is backed up on it? my contacts etc?

oh, just make a back up of your tunes library

How do I do that?

go to the itunes directory in my music and back that up, also , what i would do is sign up for a free @me.com account as when you do, all your contacts get saved online on your me account so when you restore, they get downloaded wireless to your phone
