    Default stuck on spinning wheel

I just did the "upgrade" in itunes, after it downloaded 2.1 and installed it on my phone, the next screen said to"activate etc " click continue, I did that, next screen said, ATT checking my account, will take about a minute.. 20 minutes later, little wheel just spinning away and the only way out of it was to close the window..so when I restarted itunes it took me to the same screen, click continue to activate phone.. please someone help me out here.

You looking at a big globe right now on the phone?

Unplug the phone and reboot the computer then plug it back in and try again. It sounds like the network is not connecting from iTunes to AT&T so it isn't directly related to a reboot, but it can help. No biggie...... You're an AT&T customer so it'll work out. Their server might be down at the moment

Reboot, swap to a different USB port on the computer and try again.

no I am looking at a usb cable and the itunes logo and the slider says "slide for emergency. I did what you said and it took me to a screen that says "activations unavailable at this time" unplug and try again later.
do I want to activate the phone this way when it comes back? I have an unlimited internet plan with ATT but not an Iphone specific plan.. they do know I have an iphone because it shows up on my statement.

Yeah their servers seem to be down. You really need that iPhone plan, it give your phone and service a seamless integration and really works well. Even still however..... just go ahead and try to quickpwn it. I've never tried in connect to itunes mode so I don't know if it will or not, but it will activate the phone for you for sure so give it a shot.

PS- important details like "I'm not an iPhone customer" are best disclosed BEFORE we get to this point.
