iPhone 3G - Activation

I got an iPhone 3G off eBay. I have an AT&T Plan as it is now (NOT an iPhone Plan), and want to use the 3G on it without paying the $30 /month data charge, because I already have the $15/month MediaNet. I tried to use QuickPwn to Activate the phone last night, but it just gave me no signal, and occasionally a "NO SERVICE" message. I also tried Pwnage, but with the same results.

I was looking for help on this last night, and found that if you un-check "Activate" in pwnage, it would be okay, and I could use the phone. But here's where it gets bad, AT&T just sent me a Text MSG saying that "My plan is inelgible for an iPhone 3G, to call them immediately to avoid extra charges."

How can I solve this one guys?

do you have a 2G sim? i think that might be a problem also...im running a 3G on a pre-paid sim for months and havnt gotten a message but when i had an old sim , it wouldnt work

yeah, i was using an unlocked 2g before. i just popped that sim into the phone.

how can i convince at&t to swich the sims for me?

that idk, but if your using a 1st gen iphone sim or a sim without the 3G logo, they will kno' i would suggest telling them that you sim is messed up and your planning on gettin a 3G enabled phone...its easier if you walk into a AT&T store tho' cuz you will get it there on the spot, and that bad boy would definitly work on the spot

the sim has a 3g logo on it, but its different from the sim that came with the 3g iphone... i guess i'll just call them...

so my question now is, will i get signal after i switch those sims, and then re-pwn it checking activate?

you should , but now that you say that it does have a 3G symbol, it should work...hmmm....well....try that tho, i had almost the same situation but what i did was buy a prepaid sim and had the medianet package on it for like 3 months now, but i also have a monthly now with medianet 15dollar and its working flawlessly....

i just got off the phone with at&t. they switched that sim card for me to the one that came with the 3g. I'm going to pwn it with activate checked and see what it does...

UPDATE: My phone has the unjailbroken apple original firmware on it now. I'm getting ready to pwn it

ok, so you pawned with activation right? What oter otions did u choose? Cuz if you check YouTube fix or wifi fix I think this also affects it,,,also try it without activation and see what happens

Therein lies the problem. If you pwn with activation and try to use an ATT sim it will not work and you will not get wifi or edge or 3G reception.

If you try and activate it with your sim you will be locked into a contract.

Seems like Apple and ATT have finally solved the no iphone plan issue with the 3G phone.......

okay, i talked to at&t earlier about that message. they said they had no record of it. so now im back to a jailbroken phone without activation checked. who knows whats going on with them...
