Am I the only crazy one, or uh...?
Am I alone when I say that I like firmware 1.1.x better than 2.0 - 2.1?
I have a first-gen iPhone that started with 1.0.2, and with each new version my phone got slightly slower than the last, but I was more than satisfied with the new features and bug fixes. But when I installed 2.1 from 1.1.4 I just experienced so much slowdown and so many glitches that I just downgraded to 1.1.4. And in my opinion, the App Store sucks compared to what can be had through Installer/Cydia.
I've never been happier with my phone (despite developer loss of interest)...but uh...am I the only one here??Last edited by steeda763; 10-14-2008 at 10:45 PM.
Do I brag about which phone I have in this space?

To each his own. Im glad your happy with ur setup.
Personally, I have 2.1 running on my 3g (daily driver) and my 2g (unlocked test dummy) and I love 2.1, got it running speedy smooth....hacking the crap out of it and **knocks on wood** no issues.

I would imagine the hardware has been tweaked here and there since 1.0.2 to better support the new firmware versions. Or my hardware has experienced a little degradation over the last 14 months. Though I could be wrong about either.

Check out one1's guide to fast 2.1 jailbreak here:
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/general...ken-phone.html
He even has a video. I didn't want to go through the trouble of doing it but it was totally worth it. I think it is just our methods of jailbreaking that are causing slowdown. I am happier with this method than anything else (runs nicer than my 1.x ever did)
Again, this guide I linked to was made by One1 and I am, in no way, taking credit for it. if you decide to use it and love it, toss HIM a thanks, NOT ME!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

The App Store doesn't "suck". Just b/c you have to PAY for the apps doesn't give it a negative label. There are 300-400 FREE apps too
The App Store gives you more than 2000 additional choices! Additionally, the developers have not "lost interest" as you put it... they have just diverted their valuable time and interest to the CURRENT firmware. Do you still see new programs being written for Window 95? (Kind of an extreme example but relevant) If you stay on the 1.1.4 or below firmware you are STUCK with what you have and there will never be any updates or new apps or continued support. When you say you experience more slow down in new firmwares you need to be more specific. I know that my 2.1 3G is running extremely fast but I don't run any apps with background daemons either (intelliscreen, animated themes, dtunes, widgets, etc). Every app of any value has been ported to 2.0+ now and there should be nothing holding you back.

No I realize the App Store has free programs. I just found that some of the programs paled in comparison to what was available in Installer.
And yes I know that developers have moved on to newer firmwares, hence why I said they lost interest in 1.x.x versions.
And finally, comparing both firmware versions 1.1.4 and 2.1 running the same processes on my phone, the 1.1.4 won in terms of performance and stability, hands down. I'm not trying to sell antiquated technology here, I'm just saying that 2.1 was a huge step in the wrong direction in terms of my personal iPhone productivity.
PLUS the battery life on my phone running 2.1 was abysmal. I have no idea why, but it was downright terrible compared to when I had 1.1.4.
I like the unfinished iRadio better than Pandora, etc. I like Agile Messenger better than AOL's and Yahoo's individual offerings. iSlSk isn't even available for 2.0+ yet. I like being able to edit SpringBoard.strings without a converter. The list could go on I suppose.Do I brag about which phone I have in this space?
