Will 3G iphone ever get turn by turn directions ?

I've had my 3G iphone for a few months now and im really failing to see the point of the built in GPS. Will we ever get any software which gives us turn by turn directions ? I've not heard or read any rumours about it for a while now.

I've long been suspicious that we'll end up with an over-the-air updating service based on google maps (which I don't think would be so good for a number of reasons), but now I'm starting to think it's taken too long since the iPhone 3G's introduction and we'll more than likely have to wait until the third generation (at least). Maybe a better GPS capability in hardware is required. Or maybe we're just waiting on new firmware to introduce the missing GPS components (course and average speed I believe) and then they'll relax the EULA and we'll be swamped - here's hoping!

Right now there are two turn by turn GPS apps (TomTom and one other) that I know of that are READY TO GO. What's stopping them? Apple... who else?

I am no expert, but I doubt this is the case. When running on true gps through google maps you are pretty damn near where you are supposed to be (it is as close as my garmin nuvi ever is)

I'm surprised the TomTom hasn't been approved yet. They were ready to roll in July it seems like.

Probably has more to do with the terms between apple and google more than anything else
