Headphone issues

I didn't go to put my headphones in my new iPhone until today, only to realize that they won't go in the recessed jack. What is the best way to get around this?

I have the original iphone (hence the recessed jack) and I have tried 3 different headphones and my FM transmitter, and none of them will fit enough in.

I have this problem too. I trimmed the plastic off the top of the headphone's plug enough to allow it to slide in.
They sell some adapters that will solve this problem for you... But as a quick fix in the field, trim the rubber off the boot and it should fit.

I don't see my self buying an extra piece to carry around in my pocket as forgetful as i am. Read this for an example of trimming:

That's one of the few minor reasons i'm upgrading to the 3g since it don't have the recessed jack.

they make adapters (as you can see in the pictures)... best Buy has their own brand (I think Dynex) that costs about 5 bucks retail, which I find worth it if you have an expensive set of buds (I would NEVER mod my Bose, Shure, or Sennhesier buds )

This would be it? Have you used it? How much does it poke out of the phone? I don't want it to stick out, and especially not this far: Click the image to open in full size.

it looks kinda like that but its about 1/2-1/3 the size of that thing LOL. That is a monster! That picture of the griffin two posts up does really look nicer, not sure about the price though. Hell, you might be able to get the griffin on clearance or something seeing as how they are no longer neeed for the current model iphone on the market.

using that device qould be the equiv of begging for trouble.
I'd be afraid the wrong amount of accidental pressure would cause stress and snap the device.
