I used to know how to back up a SIM Card with Windows XP, but its been a while and I've forgotten how.

are you wanting to backup a sim card installed in an iphone? or just backup a sim card in general with separate hardware?
If its on an iphone, try this:

It has free features and non free features.

There is a way to do it with Windows XP. Meaning, there is a default utility built into XP that will allow you to back up your phone contacts.

I just cannot remember how to do it.

iSim is an app that will do it, but only on 1X FW that I know of. I don't run windows so I dunno about that, but perhaps that's another avenue for you if you are on 1X FW.

    I don't run 1.*.

There is a method of backing it up via Windows and thats really all I'm interested in.

Sim Card Data Backup Tool 3.0.1.5 is awful. It's shareware and doesn't even detect my phone.

Create 1 fake entry in the Address Book ie Seymore Butts 1.800.555.5555 then save it and exit out of Winows Address Book and fire up iTunes.

When in iTunes with your phone connected to it:

1.Click your iPhone icon that is listed in the left window pane.
2.At the top of the screen that comes up (Summary, Info, Ringtones, Music, Photos, Videos, Podcasts, Applications) click the Info Tab.
3.Select the checkbox that says "Sync Contacts With" and make sure it says Windows Address Book Next to it. Click the little circle underneath it as well that is next to "All Contacts".

When it syncs it will pop up a warning that says something along the lines that this will change over 5% of your contacts, but be sure to allow it. Now all of your contacts wil be stored on your computer and will be accessible should you ever lose all of your contacts on your phone.

IF you do lose all of your contacts on your phone you MUST create a fake contact within your phone itself or iTunes will wipe the ones you just set up in you Windows Address Book.

Either way you go you have to have a contact either in your phone or in your WAB so that it can merge the contacts without losing any.
