Real Problems with wi-fi
Hi guys,
Wondering if someone could help me.
I seem to be having some problems with connecting to wi-fi.
when I come to my parents house I seem to have problems connecting.
My iPhone detects the wireless network and once I put in the password it connects and shows the wireless logo on top of my iPhone screen.
when i go into safari it keeps telling me its not connected to the internet.
when i go to setting-wifi and press the arrow there is nothing written next to the router.
So its seems it might be the problem.
When I go to my house the iPhone connects without any problems and when i go to setting-wifi and press the arrow there are numbers next to the router.
My brother has a N95 and connects prefectly to my parents wifi network.
So does anyone know what the problem might be as this is costing me a hell of a lot of money becuase it connects to edge all the time.
kind regards

Could be a number of things. Is your parents WiFi router set up to provide internal DHCP? Have you tried connecting manually using static settings? Try going into WiFi, and click on "Other". It will ask for a Name and Security. For the name, enter the name of your parents' routers SSID. Security should also align with the routers, WEP, WPA or WPA2. Then it will ask you for the routers password. Once entered, see if it gives you a connection then.

Next to Router there must be the IP adress of the router.
So if you know the adress, enter it manually.

Try switching from DHCP to Static, then you can edit the router adress

Once you're connected to the router, click on the Static button in the bottom right of the page. You can then manually enter the IP

Is the wifi wep? If so Wpa usually works better. What sometimes works is to temporarily disable security on the router altogether and try and connect with the iphone. If you can connect then try and enable security. Another thing to try is to reboot the router.

If I've helped you, you can help me by clicking on that Thanks button.

The problem is that you are connecting to a router that is keyed up with a different format of encryption than you are attempting to use with the iPhone. Some use WEP, some use WPA, some use HEX, etc........
