Jailbreak + Battery Life
I'm just trying to find out if I'm adversely affecting my battery life or not. I have to have my phone jailbroken because I need it to be activated.
I installed and removed Winterboard. I don't actually need it for anything...I was using it for StatusNotifications but I'd rather not have to install Winterboard just for that little app.
I've also got bossprefs installed...I like it because it's got a bunch of toggles in a convenient place and I like the numeric battery.
The other big thing is Quickgold.
I've been reading recently that Bossprefs and Winterboard pretty much destroy your battery life. The thing is, I don't really know because I never got to use a fresh iPhone. My battery seems to be okay...If I'm using the Wifi and clicking around I lose a percent about every 3-4 minutes.
I don't lose anything for a long while if the phone is locked.
What I want to know is, is there 100% certainty that Bossprefs and Winterboard (which I don't have anymore but I heard it can still have an effect even if I don't have it anymore) are hurting my battery or is this only seen by some users?
Other thing, myBattery app isn't working at all for me anymore...it won't even load up. Any ideas?

I run BossPrefs and Winterbiard and initially thought they were causing battery issues, but after a restore and remod my battery life is fine.
My experience is that battery usage can be quite random sometimes. If I am in a wifi signal area that is weak and the iPhone switches back and forth between wifi and 3 G, the battery loses much faster. I also noticed that the numeric battery caused my battery to run down faster as well.
The iPhone sometimes leaves processes running in the background even after closing the app. I have read where it's not supposed to do that. I notice this most offer with mail, even though I have push set to off and manual fetch set. Safari will also often stay running in the background. The biggest culprit is mobilemusicplayer. If I inadvertently open iPod and close it without even playing anything the process will stay running in the background and eat my battery at a faster than normal rate if I don't go in via terminal and kill the process, rebout or respring.

look at the usage from the settings you can see whether hidden apps are running or not
if there is hidden apps the usage may be equal to the standby

The numeric battery was causing your battery to deplete faster? That doesn't make sense. What's more likely is that it makes no difference, you just notice it more because it's a lot more precise than the little battery graphic.

That thought crossed my mind at one point. Another thing I have noticed is that the status bar battery seems to show more depletion than my lockscreen charging battery. Especially in what I will call the "midrange" of 40-75%.

I've noticed that the numeric battery killed my battery life as well. I had to end up charging it twice a day.

I really don't think numeric battery is the culprit. From what I can tell It's actually something Apple has hidden somewhere that Bossprefs enables, it's not really a hack or anything, just a different way to see the battery life.
What kind of battery life should you expect to get with wifi always on?
Mine is BRUTAL if I'm using Wifi.

My batter is fine with wifi as long as I am close to the router. The further away from the router the worse the battery life.
I looked at processes using putty with and without the numeric battery enabled and there are two additional items that show up after enabling numeric battery: itunesstore and SCHelper. They remain running after respring, but if i reboot the iphone leaving numeric battery enabled they go away.
I'm not sure what SC helper does, but why would itunesstore run becasue of enabling the numeric battery?

Battery life multiplies you kill hidden processes
3GS with 3.01 was jailbroken with redsn0w in a few minutes. The battery life was meager, less than 10hrs of standby, so thru Cydia I installed Sbsettings (great app) and monitored the hidden processes. The iphone Process should always be running, but it happens that other processes seem to startup on their own, apparently when the iphone is turned on or when Synced with itunes. In my case I detected at times Ipod and Mail processes constantly on. If you kill them, (when not in use), from Sbsettings, the battery life increases about 4 times ! I was going to return my iphone to Apple and now I have a long lasting battery as it should have always been. PD: Having the percentage battery indicator On made no difference to battery life.
